    Herodotus said "Egypt was a gift of the Nile" but I'm trying to look a little deeper than that.
    Not only was the development of the Nile a function of geological processes, but the mineral wealth from which
    the Pharaonic culture benefited greatly was in my view, a key element of the development of  the ancient Egyptian state.
