... About 250 million years ago, the World Ocean occupied almost the entire surface of the Earth. The whole African continent in those ancient times was under its waters. The layers of sedimentary rocks, such as limestones and sandstones gradually formed the plateau of Sahara Desert...

Before proceeding to describe the ancient buildings and artifacts, located in the desert, surrounding the Fayoum Oasis, we would like to suggest our readers to make a small photo-tour at the desert - the Bed of the Ancient Ocean. Here one can clearly see all the stages of the ancient formation of the plateau: frozen volcanic lava; coastlines of the ancient islands, covered with fossilized corals and pearl Eocene shells, sparkling under the burning sun. Here, on the zero sea level, the frozen Ancient Past of the Earth, is not touched by the sand dunes, because of the lack of the wind. Therefore - it appears before our eyes in its original view.

The fossils, found in Fayoum, are exhibited in Cairo Geological Museum.
