- Aswan -
The quartzite quarry, located along the west bank of the Nile near Aswan, were visited by our expedition last year (2012) for the first time. A brief information about this place can be found in our previous report "Egypt 2012. Aswan. Quartzite quarries."
Below is the video and photographic material, reflecting the general view of the ancient quartzite quarries of Aswan.
The artifact, shown in the pictures below, was the first one, which has seriously attracted our attention. One quartzite block contains a set of methods of stone processing, used by the ancient stone masons. There are "steps", "grooves" and "perforation" across the whole surface of the block. What was the final product, which saw the ancient master in this formless stone - even difficult to imagine... The "Quartzite Wall" is one of the most striking artifacts. The traces of processing its vertical surface, are remainding the walls of the Aswan Obelisk. The pictures below are showing the traces of ancient volcanic activity. Below - there is a video and pictures of the Egyptian hieroglyphs, carved on the walls quartzite megaliths.
