The Pyramid of Pepi II

The Pyramid of Pharaoh Pepi II is located in South Saqqara, a mile away from the Pyramid of Pepi I.

Pepi II (Neferkara) was the Pharaoh of the VI Dynasty, the youngest son of Pharaoh Pepi I and Queen Anehnes-Merira II. Pepi II reigned of approximately 2279 - 2219 years BC.

The original height of the pyramid is 52.5 meters; its perimeter is 78.5x78.5 meters.

The Pyramid complex of Pepi II was discovered by John Perring. In 1881. Gaston Maspero was the first to enter the interior of the Pyramid.

At the beginning of the XX century the Pyramid complex was studied by the French archeological mission. Archaeological work continued from 1926 to 1936.

The last two pictures are showing the basalt block, located in the southeast of the Pyramid. We have paid special attention to it, due to a great number of high-tech traces of ancient instrument, left on it's surface.
