The Temple of Karnak

The Complex of Karnak Temple is located in two kilometers from the center of Luxor. It is the largest Temple in the Ancient World.

During the expedition of 2012 we paid more attention to the detailed study of the engineering solutions of the ancient builders. We would like to show you different features of construction and renovation of multiple buildings in the entire Temple Complex. And, of course, a lot of pictures of masterpiece bas-reliefs of ancient artists and the way of applying them to the walls of the buildings.

The following photos - the most bright example of the fact, that ancient buildings of the Temple Complex have suffered not one ancient reconstruction and repair.

In the south-west of the Karnak Complex, there are lines of fragments, collected during the archaeological work in the territory of Karnak. Let's consider some interesting moments.

After leaving the archaeological site, we took the route of bypassing the Complex by its large perimeter, beginning from the south-west.

There is a waterlogged crypt, next to the Sacred Lake (first row of photos).

The north-eastern part of the Karnak Complex is archaeological territory.

A fresh excavation, away from the main part of the complex, attracted our attention. The last three pictures below are showing the pit, aproximately 3.4 meters depth. Glancing inside one can see the limestone masonry blocks.

Following towards the main center of the Complex, lets pay attention to the high quality bas-reliefs on the ruins of pink granite stelae, as well as the remains of the walls of the former sandstone buildings.

Returning to the territory of the main Temple Complex, lets stop inside and around the so-called "holy of holies." This is the central point of the Karnak Temple. This ancient central building is made of granite from it's floor up to it's ceiling.

Below are some pictures of the Hatshepsut Obelisk from the different angles.
