Bent Pyramid of Sneferu

Lower Chamber

Perimetr - 4,9 x 6,3 m

Heigh - 17,3 m

Radiation level - 0 mR/h

According to the cheme, photographs below are showing area "C" (Lower Chamber) and "D" (vertical shaft in the south wall of the Lower Chamber. This shaft is called "Chimney").

Lower Chamber (C).

The first picture shows the entrance to the Lower Chamber of the Bent Pyramid (C). It is possible to get here by a wooden ladder, located in Antechamber (B). Below are the photos of the entrance to the Lower Chamber, located in its northern wall.

The following photos are taken around the perimeter of the chamber (C), according to scheme. The radiation measurement was taken here (second picture in the second row).

In some places the walls of the Lower Chamber are damaged by serious erosion. In the places of cracks we can see the presence of the pink cement, which can probably be a trace of the ancient repair the the room. (Pink cement can be also found in the Satellite Pyramid of the Bent and Red Pyramid in Dahshur; in the ruins of the limestone structures in Userkaf complex and the "Headless" Pyramid in Saqqara; in the remains of the Pyramid in Abu-Rawwash.)

The walls of the chamber are covered with a layer of limestone salt, which can be clearly seen in the following pictures in the first row.

On the last row of the last photo, we can see a fragment of limestone facing, which ever covered the room of the Low Chamber.

Below are the photos of the stepped roof of the Low Chamber.

On the last three pictures is shown a south wall of the chamber. Here we have an entrance into the vertical shaft - "Chimney" (D). The Chimney has a pass-through niche (middle picture) that goes into the camera (C).

"Chimney" (D).

The first photo shows the entrance to the Chimney (D) from the Lower Chamber (C). Other pictures are showing step vault ceiling of the Chimney shaft and its northern aperture - pass-through niche, leading from the Chimney to the Low Chamber.

The last picture shows a view, facing from the exit of the Chimney (D) in the Lower Chamber (C).

Below is the picture, showing the general view of the entrance to the Chimney and the pass-through niche.

Pass-through niche of the Lower chamber (C), leading to the Chimney (D):

Pass-through niche of the Chimney (D), leading to the Lower Chamber (C):

Left picture shows the view of the pass-through niche from the lower chamber (C), the right picture shows a view to the Lower Chamber (C) from inside the Chimney pass- through niche.

Furthermore, we left the Lower Chamber (C) by the spiral wooden staircase, leading to the Connecting Tunnel, that connects Northern and Western room-system of the Pyramid.

The first three pictures show the view from the height of the entrance to the Connecting Tunnel down the Lower Chamber. The fourth picture shows the amount of CO2 in the air of the lower chamber. Last photo shows - the entrance to the Connecting Tunnel, which will be shown in the next chapter.
